Another milestone in the EDATS project – We visited Cannes!
Within the framework of the ERASMUS+ programme, the EDATS project (www.edats.eu) has reached another important milestone in its implementation during the last week: 20-21 March 2026 in.
This time, representatives of the participating sports organizations met in the picturesque city of Cannes, France, together with delegates from the University of Cagliari, which coordinates the development, and the company DAUVEA. Our host, Racing Club de Cannes organised various programmes.
During the project meeting, the results achieved so far were presented, and the participating sports organizations shared their experiences regarding the sensors and the use of the developed software. It became clear to all participants that the project is progressing in the right direction and provides valuable technical support. At the same time, it was also evident that there are still significant untapped opportunities in this field. The possibility of launching a new joint project has already been raised.
At the professional meeting, the University and DAUVEA, the ICT expert company, introduced the latest version (Version 3) of the EDATS platform application, which has eliminated several previously identified issues. It was demonstrated that, thanks to the EU-funded international collaboration, software development is significantly more effective, as representatives from different countries are able to identify a wider range of errors and challenges during the development phase.
In addition to the existing types of jumps, experts have successfully developed a new measurement method. In this test, the athlete takes off with both feet, lands forward on one foot, and must stabilize their position on that single leg. Using this method, it is possible to measure very precisely how long it takes for the athlete to regain stability after the jump.
These data can be particularly valuable when multiple measurement results are available for a given player, especially in cases where the athlete needs to return to competitive condition following an injury.
The French hosts also organized additional valuable programs to complement the professional agenda. A particularly insightful presentation was delivered by Laurent Cauet, head coach of the Fréjus team, who spoke about the specific characteristics of youth development and coach education in France. This was followed by a valuable lecture from Dr. Michel Gaillaud, team physician of RC Cannes, who presented key insights into the treatment of knee and lower back pain among young athletes. Article:

Following the official part of the project meeting, participants had the opportunity to attend two high-level matches at the impressive Palais des Victoires in Cannes. In the women’s championship, our project partner team, RC Cannes, won the city derby against Volero Le Cannet with a score of 3:1. In the evening men’s match, the host team RC Cannes also proved to be stronger, defeating Toulouse Spacer’s team with a 3:0 set score.
We would like to thank the hosts for the outstanding programs and experiences, with special appreciation to Davide Borghesi and Simon Cayron.
Professional work will continue within each partner organization, and there will be one more opportunity for the partners to meet before the project concludes. The final meeting is expected to take place at the end of August in Serbia, where our partner SK Volley will be the host in Novi Sad.
