Meeting at Poland

The EDATS project in Poland has entered to its productive phase. The international partnership was able to present convincing results during the project meeting held within the framework of the ERASMUS+ program on February 12, 2025. Jagiellonczyk Biała Podlaska awaited the partners with great hospitality and professional conditions.

The EDATS (European Digital Assisted Training in Team Sports) project aims to use modern technologies to develop a cost-effective tool that specifically supports the professional work, efficiency and rehabilitation in the field of volleyball.

The project is implemented with the co-financing of the European Union in an Italian, Polish, Serbian, Hungarian and French partnership ( https://edats.eu/ ). The work of the volleyball sports clubs is supported by the research and development activities of the University of Cagliari and the DAUVEA ICT company.

The project, which started in the spring of 2024, can already show serious results, which the partners were able to test during the project meeting held in Poland.

Antonio Pittalis and his colleagues from DAUVEA demonstrated that the system, which is still under development, already has working functions that can be used in everyday work. The system is already capable of assisting training work and digitally recording the standing stability and jumping ability of athletes. The next step will be to be able to help the coaches’ work with evaluated data even during the match.

Massimiliano Pau, full professor of Bioengineering at the University of Cagliari, emphasized the fact that the European partnership will be strategic to build a dataset composed by the results obtained from tests carried out in the participating countries.  Such international database is a serious added value which makes our common work extremely useful.

Conrad Rechnio and Marcin Śliwa, head coaches of Jagiellonczyk Biała Podlaska and their colleagues were not only excellent hosts, but also selected 50 young Polish athletes to test the new system locally. . The smiling athletes were excellent test subjects and the data collection provided a lot of input for the continuation of the work.

Andrija Gerić and Vasa Mijić (SK Volley, Serbia), excellent Serbian sports professionals and champions of the 2000 Sydney Olympics, recommended many aspects of conducting and recording measurements, which shows why the international added value of such projects is so high!

On behalf of the Hungarian partners, physiotherapist Villő Lipták and manager István Borbola (BRSE, Hungary) also helped the joint work with practical advice, that can help facilitate the comparability of internationally measured data and the safe handling of data.

The senior project manager of the EDATS project, Claudio Congiu (ASD Pallovollo Alfieri, Italy) is very satisfied that serious results have now been demonstrated. He is firmly convinced that the international project is destined for success, to which all partners can contribute.

Davide Borghesi (Racing Club De Cannes, France) indicated that they are looking forward to further events of the project and working together. Next time the partners will meet in Hungary in September 2025, but until then the surveys will continue by all project partners.
